scars don’t freckle
scars don’t freckle is a micro-short film written and directed by me. With no budget for this project, we experimented with what we could make with a tiny team, an old school camcorder and a one-day shoot.
We are currently submitting to festivals worldwide, with our online premiere available to watch now on Retrospective of Jupiter

Based on a poem I wrote a few years ago, scars don’t freckle touches on the theme of madness, a word reclaimed and embraced by Mad people, often defined as the “mentally ill”. This film deviates from cliché portrayals of recovery as both linear and as a final goal, instead exploring madness as constantly moving, overlapping and evolving. The poem itself references metaphorical scars, but it references physical self-harm scars too – despite the taboos and fragility around self-harm, I don’t believe we should continue to shy away from the topic.
This film is a tribute to the struggle for Mad liberation, to my Mad friends and loved ones, and to myself.
